6-Week Pottery Course:
“Wheel Throwing Development”

Ready to take your pottery further? Our 6-week wheel throwing developer course is an intermediate pottery course in Sheffield designed for those who have already completed a beginner wheel throwing course.

Across six weeks, you'll refine your technique, improve consistency and explore more ambitious forms, including larger vessels, handles, lidded pieces and surface decoration. With a maximum of 6 spots per class, you'll receive plenty of personalised guidance throughout. Ideal for anyone looking to progress their ceramics skills in Sheffield, this course includes all clay, tools, glazing and firing.

The course runs once a week over six consecutive weeks, with each session 3 hours long. Please get in touch if you are unable to make one of the weeks and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Suitable for ages 16+ .Shorter nails are recommended for wheel throwing.

Course Journey

Designed for potters ready to progress beyond the fundamentals, this 6-week course focuses on refining technique, improving consistency and exploring more ambitious forms with personalised guidance throughout.

Week 1: Individual technique assessment, refining centring, improving consistency and throwing identical forms

Week 2: Learning to manage more clay, throw taller cylinders, closed forms and improving efficiency

Week 3: Creating lidded forms by throwing galleries, lids and other matching components

Week 4: Pulling elegant handles, jugs and mugs and surface refinement

Week 5: Developing your style by altering thrown forms, practising decorative techniques, with a combination of throwing and handbuilding

Week 6: Personal project time! Design and make a chosen piece with tutor feedback throughout

Each session is 3 hours long and includes a 20 minute clean up which is an important aspect of pottery, ensuring students learn about safe and healthy working practices.

Your pieces will be ready to collect within 4-6 weeks.
