1-Day Pottery Experience

Enjoy the best of pottery in Sheffield with our creative one-day pottery experience. This immersive one-day workshop combines handbuilding in the morning with an introduction to wheel throwing in the afternoon, making it the perfect choice if you're looking for a unique day out or a creative gift experience.

Suitable for complete beginners, you'll enjoy expert tuition, a welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to create a collection of handmade pieces to be glazed and fired. Limited to just eight spots, this pottery workshop in Sheffield includes all clay, tools glazing and firing.

Unlimited tea, coffee and light refreshments are provided throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch or visit one of the fantastic cafés and eateries in Abbeydale (just a short walk from the studio) during the lunch break.

Suitable for ages 12+ .Children to be accompanied by an adult. Shorter nails are recommended for wheel throwing.

Day Outline

Spend a creative day exploring the two core disciplines of ceramics, combining hand-building and wheel throwing in one relaxed and inspiring workshop. Perfect for complete beginners, this immersive experience offers the ideal introduction to clay while creating a collection of unique handmade pieces.

Morning: Handbuilding

  • Welcome to the studio and introduction to clay

  • Learn pinch, coil and slab building techniques

  • Create a functional or decorative handbuilt piece

  • Explore texture, stamps and simple surface decoration

Lunch Break

Afternoon: Wheel Throwing

  • Introduction to the pottery wheel

  • Learn to prepare and centre clay

  • Throw your first bowls and cylinders

  • Individual guidance and plenty of time to practise

  • Glazing demonstration and what happens next

The session is 5 hours long with a 30 minute lunch break. Each session includes a 20 minute clean up at the end, which is an important aspect of pottery, ensuring students learn about safe and healthy working practices.

Your pieces will be ready to collect within 4 weeks.
